Hi. I’m more concerned than curious about where this next pointless (to anybody with two brain cells to run together) meeting between Vladimir Putin and his faithful serf leads.
Does he get another soccer ball? Does he give Putin a Patriot missile battery to show he’s being fair to both sides?
But certainly there’s a place for intellectual curiosity If nothing were at stake. “Curious minds want to know. “. Fingers crossed for all of us.
‘Many pundits are saying …’ that this is just a ploy to take our minds off other negative things happening as a result of Trump’s actions - tariffs, Epstein, Gaza failure …
Thank you, Alexander Vindman, for this update and analysis. As I see it, Ukraine should keep everything they have and everything they had before the cruel, unfair attacks by Russia. Our country should not be trying to make gains from the situation, and we have no business whatsoever in influencing or trying to influence any kind of forfeiture by Ukraine. They have suffered unnecessarily, and Russia owes them much for what damages can be made right. Deaths, wounds, and more can never be made right, and kidnapped children and all Ukrainians taken need to be returned home safely. Encouragement of the attacked country to forfeit anything to anyone is wrong, no matter how the situation is viewed.
From what I have read somewhere some time ago, although I cannot recall the names, the grandson of a ruler of Russ married a Ukrainian princess. I do not know, but I wonder if that is how lands became the separate countries they did.
However it was, nobody has any right to intrude, harm anyone or any property, and try to steal from another country. Further, no leader of any country should be involved in cheating Ukraine. That is not peace making. It is theft or the intrusion to aid in thieving, as I see it. The only way to have peace, it seems, is for Russia to stop fighting and attacking, to leave Ukraine, and to make amends somehow, for the needless havoc they have caused.
We have read that the word of the initiating, attacking leader has not had follow through in other situations, so how could a promise of peace be trusted now or any time, and particularly for that peace to last? It seems that if a leader of any country becomes involved, doing so would make that leader used and scoffed at because his idea of helping make peace would merely be a feather in the cap of the attacking initiator, who thinks he can do what he wants, no matter what input is offered.
I do not know all of the history, but based on what I do know, this is how I see it. I wish for peace, for the good people everywhere, who have been harmed and traumatized, to be able to recover, and for war to stop, permanently. I wish all hatred and ill will would stop everywhere. Why can’t people get along and be nice to each other, whether in individual relationships or in different geographical or political areas?
Thanks, Alexander Vindman, for the update and analysis. To have talks and be successful, the parties must be serious. Trump is not serious. He's also not intelligent enough. He is also not a deal maker.
Trump is doing this to try to win back people. To try to get votes!!! Putin might do whatever it takes to keep Trump in office. However, There’s nothing that Putin can do or say to change my mind about Trump!! We need to get rid of him!!! We cannot trust this and we mustn’t!!!!
Home healthcare thought you should see this mentions Russia Ukraine war scapegoating Biden etc. The negotiations should include President Zelenskyy and rightfully so.
trump is an authoritarian who is responsible for the imprisonment and death of American citizens. Why on earth would anyone believe he cares about the Ukrainian people or the end of the war? He is a liar and a fool who is where he is for the money, and not to safeguard America or any other country of the world.
I agree with your sentiments. Putin is pro and trump appears to be an amateur in his negotiation efforts. trump has some leverage he could use even promised to do so on more than one occasion. Why is trump allowing Putin to dictate terms? What leverage does Putin have over trump? It appear that trump does not see Ukraine as a victim of Russian aggression. Russia will not stop with Ukraine. Please support Ukraine...
I am a new subscriber and have some information from another author that might be useful to untie some knots in this contretemps.
I have gotten halfway through Timothy Snyder's "The Road to Unfreedom" and hope that others get into his take on "Eurasian theory" as well as the long history of Ukraine/Russia relations.
I am alarmed about what he writes concerning Putin's relationship with Trump in 2014, leading up to and including the latter's election methodology. I would like Alexander's opinion about all of that. It appears to me that Mr. Snyder is well acquainted with the history of that area and how the Trump campaign was used by Russia to influence American policy as well as infiltrating the general public about Ukraine and Russian "innocence".
I hope you can oblige. I do recommend reading this book because it fills a lot of holes in the record, especially before and after Mr. Trump's descent into American history. It is downright scary, this book. And since you are an expert in this area, I would like your take on the theory Timothy Snyder proposes about the future of "Eurasia" and how our President was apparently played by Putin in the years before elected President - and is still being subjected to head fakes, whether he (Trump) knows it or not.
I will follow up later with some page citations to specific "unfreedom" issues Snyder sets out. And I highly recommend buying/renting his book (it was written in 2018 and prefaced in 2023 to reflect changes).
Thank you, Alexander, for all you have done and now do for us here while our country is being disassembled in front of our eyes. Russia is deeper into us than we are led to believe at this point.
