A few days ago, I joined Ali Velshi on MSNBC to discuss Donald Trump’s reckless stance on Ukraine, the implications for U.S. national security, and what it signals to our adversaries. Despite his earlier claims that he could end the war on day one, Trump has walked back any coherent strategy and instead adopted a position that encourages Russian aggression and alienates our European allies.
Russia's goals have remained consistent: subjugate Ukraine, fracture NATO, and undermine the democratic order. Trump’s public statements—and private interests—are aligning with those aims. Whether he’s resisting additional sanctions on Russia or dangling ceasefire language without substance, his actions send a clear message: the United States is no longer a reliable partner.
I also spoke with Ali about the risks here at home. Trump surrounds himself with loyalists who don’t speak truth to power, and he’s increasingly open to using the tools of government to punish dissent. With fewer constraints and more compliant enablers, a second Trump administration will bring real danger not just to our global standing, but to the health of our democracy.
It is more important than ever that we stand up to these abuses of power. Thank you all for helping spread the word and fight back.
