This week, I was joined by Democratic candidate Fred Wellman (MO-02) and Senator Andy Kim for a conversation on the issues facing the United States today,
After more than two decades in the Army, Fred Wellman has spent much of his life in service to others. His decision to run for Congress in Missouri’s 2nd District grew out of a growing frustration with political corruption and the challenges facing Americans who are working hard but struggling to get ahead. In this conversation, Wellman explains why he believes the country needs leaders who put people ahead of political self-interest and focus on the problems families face every day.
For Wellman, those problems come down to three priorities: the cost of living, corruption in government, and the chaos he associates with the Trump administration - areas of concern that I highlighted during my own campaign here in Florida. Fred discusses his plans to lower healthcare costs, restore Affordable Care Act subsidies, reverse tariffs that drive up prices, and hold elected officials accountable by restricting congressional stock trading and cryptocurrency trading by public officials.
Senator Andy Kim and I spoke of the economic consequences of the war with Iran, the need for meaningful congressional oversight, and his proposal to expand healthcare coverage for children through MediKids. Senator Kim makes the case that public service must mean more than winning elections: it must mean listening to people, addressing their concerns, and delivering results. Both emphasize the importance of grassroots engagement and the work ahead to turn frustration into meaningful political change. Information on Senator Kim’s MediKids plan can be found here.
