What a comprehensive overview of what has to become, despite congressional Republican obstruction, a critical focus of our policy and support. If we don’t invest in the fight Ukraine is living and dying for, we are gambling with a war involving all our NATO partners. And ourselves.

I appreciate your candor but with these putin sympathizers in our government, ukraine can't survive. What happened to McConnell and the rest who were for the support of ukraine.. I guess he is once again seeing the Trump on the wall and falling in line. I feel so helpless. I call , I write, I vote, I donate, what else can I do. Those butt heads in congress and now in the senate are just digging in more. I said it before, these actions say a lot more about us than it does them. Biden is thinking these people negotiate, but he openly gave concessions and then congress decided to move the line for more. This is a failing government and all the line ups for Hitler.

A very comprehensive and detailed asssessment for what it will take for Ukraine to prevail over Russia. The question is how can such a complicated and equipment intensive plan be implemented in a time span that will allow victory? Especially with so much resistance from western allies and political gamesmanship. This plan is noble and we can pray for its implementation but it seems like a steep hill to climb. Ukraine is more than worthy of the effort...god speed.

I sent this to a friend in Kiev who works for the UN. I am stunned that anyone in Congress would abandon Ukraine. Clearly Putin’s hold on Trump and Trump’s influence on MAGA Republicans is stronger than expected. The idea that the once anti-Red Republicans would support the will of a Russian dictator is incredible.

Also if Trump is elected he will most likely drop the trade embargo on Russia. That embargo is hurting them. They wanted international investment. It was part of Glasnost. I know this because I was at a private dinner during Glasnost hosted by an auto CEO with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Reagan. The two militaries were to talk about the possibilities of American business investment with Glasnost. But now Putin has blown it by invading his neighbor and violating the treaty stating Ukraine would be left alone. American industries don’t want to be nationalized. That costs shareholders money.

The Republicans are not representing free market values

Trump appears to be showing his true intentions for all to see and the House Republicans are either for the current United States or they plan to side with Trump. If Trump is elected, he doesn’t want to be part of NATO so he would not honor the treaty. The plans to take over the government are already in the works with the Republican denial of aide to Ukraine appearing to be part of that plan. Why have an insurrection when Trump can openly announce what he is going to do like Hitler did and no one stops him?

This is an excellent look at the reality of the Ukrainian situation. I would generally concur with David Frum that the real reason most of the GOP on the Hill is liable to screw up what has been a very successful, cost-effective policy is fear of Trump and their voters.

Switching gears, how well are the Ukrainians adapting lessons learned at the squad and platoon levels to devise innovative infantry tactics, most notably infiltration, assault, and ambushes?

In addition, what is the U.S. doing to facilitate such innovation? How effective are U.S. efforts to incorporate lessons learned from Ukraine into its own training and doctrines?

I have suggested that Ukraine recruit Africans as soldiers, with pay and a path to citizenship. They would need to provide training and Ukrainian language instruction. Europe is aging as the Ukrainian military, while Africa has an average age of 19. This seems like a golden opportunity on both sides. If Ukraine tells African recruits that their helping them to win the war is helping them to gain EU entry, and along with it, their citizenship. Of course, they will have to ensure that the military sees them as help, and not just an opportunity to exercise racist prejudices.

Nope. Jets, drones and missiles needed, and smart folks to keep them all working.
