When we march in protest, we are in fact celebrating all those who stand for the antithesis of that which we protest. All those who have courageously stood up and openly spoken truth to power. All those who are here in this country hard working and good citizens and immigrants all of us despite our differences. All those who came before us and sacrificed so much of their lives even giving their lives so their children and those who came after, which is at this time, all of us could be free.
We stood up for American values; and what is more we met each other out there and fell in love, don't you think, with what we saw. In my view we saw a new version of Americans that always existed but from which we were too distracted by misinformation, abuse and manipulation to recognize.
We saw the good, and the strength, and courage, and resilience that has come from 250 years of immigration and democracy guided by our Constitution; and we saw the better version of ourselves when we unite and drop all prejudice. The face of America and who we are as a nation of people was shrouded until given this chance (a crisis) to introduce ourselves to each other and embrace each other.
We are each of us different in many ways except one, and that is every one of us including those newly here as immigrants will fight and even die to defend our freedom and our rights; and we will stand up for those who are being disabused of their inalienable rights.
Hello, America! I I'm proud of you! Look at what you have become. It is not shabby! It is extraordinary. The blending of cultures and faiths and traditions and languages and more!
United we stand; and that is definitely what we are doing. Our collective response to this crisis has shown us and the world that Americans are adaptable and brave and fast learners as well. I'm so proud of what we have accomplished and excited how far we can go to make even bigger changes.
When this is behind us let's stay cohesive; continue to be engaged and in touch; continue to volunteer and protest and be LOUD in the pressure we put on our elected officials. When this is done let's turn the table and make the government serve us, all of us; not leave off with our elected officials there to be served by us.
Raissa.....AMEN! Very well written! I have been to all three protest and each and grows bigger and bigger. And we even got local news coverage this time. (small town we will not get national) I can't wait for the next protest.
Have you heard of David Hogg? He was one of the kids at the Parkland shooting, he is now a grown up. He has a platform called "Leaders We Deserve" he is trying to get young people elected to Congress and get rid of some of the older people with the same old ideas. We need some fresh, new ideas and people who will stand up and fight for us. I'm a baby boomer and I'm behind him 1000%. Look up Leader We Deserve and sew what you think and maybe join us.
Yes. I’m familiar with David Hogg and his story; incredible. There is no reason our children may not come home to us because their bodies were splattered unrecognizable against their classroom walls; so many whether they lived or died witness death of their classmates and teachers and in war time front line terror in those last moments of their precious lives.
And David Hogg is being pushed out of his position in the DNC, right? How is that struggle fairing? I’ll look into the group you suggested.
There is a huge amount of good coming our way in America, but it will not be given to us nor is anyone fighting for us. We need to do that ourselves. The only way forward is to strengthen our connections and nurture our unification. United we are the most powerful force on the planet literally. And, we the American people a courageous lot as well as fast learners.
And I am so heartened to see the last protest brought out a wide variety of demographics as well as generations. There is a whole lot of good coming. I’m glad to be alive at this time and play some small part within the greater whole!!
Will the Navy and Marines, too? They were established in 1775.
The best part was the festival on the mall. There were battle reenactments, fitness contests, rock climbing, face painting, live bands, and more. This is how you showcase our military. There were logistical difficulties, but my understanding is that it went well. Do we still have airshows? Marines hold a toy drive every Christmas, showcasing the Marine Corps.
A parade isn't patriotism. The festival was about patriotism. Want to boost recruitment? Have an interactive show of hardware and share the life of server members. Do we still have MREs? Serve some of those. Get people excited! Watching a sea of platoons in BDUs march past is not exciting.
Trump craves power and attention. Trump can't seem to fit into social circles. Now he is trying to be accepted by the dictators (who are laughing at him). Trump's problem is that he tries too hard. He insists on shoving the square peg into the round hole.
Trump is a very disturbed emotionally and mentally and literally a corrupt crime boss of a crime family. And a clear and present danger to the entire world. God help us in surviving him for today he is playing with declaring war on Iran. Which will lead to WWIII. And the use of nuclear power. The only parameters he will use in making that decision is will it profit him, and will it make him look good. That's frightening! And, most certainly Trump and his administration are way over their heads, and their chance of leading all of us (the world) away from hell fire and brimstone is zero.
Trump is so impotent he needs to surround himself with the members of our strong and vital American military. But they are not his, and they are so much more than he will ever be. Each of them! And at my age they are my children and grandchildren. Hands off!
You can make them march and push for them to turn their power against their fellow citizens; but in the end you will fail for the military are the best trained and disciplined demographic of our country, and each of them swore allegiance to our Constitution.
They could not last and reach the point of accomplishment within the service if not for their ability to fully accept and honor their responsibilities and allegiance, which will NEVER be to a KING!
Trump has always been rogue. Demanding "unconditional surrender" (all caps) on social media. He thinks he is playing RISK. Trump believes Hannibal Lecter is a real person. Perhaps taking it to the next step and having him strapped in a white straitjacket and chains. And take his smartphone away.
When Trump is ‘against the world’ … the world then becomes his virtual ‘enemy’ and doing battle on all fronts drains his ‘power’.
— Trump’s power is more limited than ours, is the point. He is going to be a very tired old man by the time he exits stage right!
Israel preempted Trump’s negotiations with Iran by striking first … then, as Heather C-Richardson writes “Being sidelined in foreign affairs at the same time as the American people turned out in huge numbers to protest his administration and as his military parade fizzled shows 🔻Trump has less power than he tries to project.”
* There is some opinion too, that the military parade DID have some redeeming features, such as educational elements & public-troop interactions.
If the military is called, they deliver. But they are each guided by their oath to the Constitution and their allegiance to a free and democratic nation, America.
To think they were pulled from much important work to make Trump feel better about himself is repulsive. The military, however, did their duty and responded to the call. However, I believe Trump is suffering from a major delusion if he thinks they are there to serve him in destroying the very country they are trained to defend, and if he thinks they will not uphold their oath to our Constitution.
The only reason there was some semblance of good at that parade is because of the discipline and strength and training those who are members of our military represent and possess.
There is NOTHING more powerful than people united protesting peacefully and organizing their resources to push back. We have really never been challenged to this extent, but we've done ourselves proud. We have NOT failed in what we need to do. But we need to keep up the pressure for the forces working against us are formidable.
Engage! Be loud. Keep breaking their phones with calls to make our voices heard. Protest peacefully. Find your local INDIVISIBLE or other group and join them to work on phone banks and write post cards. Then when elections come around find out how you can facilitate as part of your community at the polls or in knocking on doors; making phone calls and making sure everyone in your circle, building, neighborhood can get to the polls.
And, if possible, donate to the Democratic Party starting now; as well as to the individual campaigns fighting for seats that can push the GOP into a very small minority; replacing most of them because they need to be replaced!
We should be celebrating American heroes like Alexander Vindman instead of wading through the muck of the current administration.

Perfectly stated.
