Gold Star Parents vs An Actual Loser
Today VoteVets will air an ad featuring Gold Star families calling out Donald Trump for his disrespect towards to the military and the ultimate sacrifice many Americans have paid. Predictably, MAGA is mad because they hate being faced with the reality of who their cult leader is. You can watch the ad here.
Representative Brian Mast of Florida is especially upset. In a statement he said “…it cites a refuted claim debunked by senior officials who were in the room years ago.” The thing is, Trump didn’t only say this one time. There are authoritative accounts of him saying it multiple times in different settings.
The Trump campaign is denying they attacked Gold Star families…by attacking Gold Star families.
Just last week I had dinner with someone with firsthand knowledge of Trump saying it to a Gold Star father while he was visiting his son’s grave at Arlington National Cemetery. And then there was the infamous Pentagon Tank Meeting during which he told the most senior members of the military they were “losers.” Of course we all remember when he refused to attend an Armistice Day service at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France because it was raining.
Trump does not understand the concept of service, much less selfless service and ultimate sacrifice.
In an effort to rewrite history, Mast proceeded to attack VoteVets calling us a “shill group funded by liberal elites.” In fact, we represent hundreds of thousands of veterans and military families like me and the folks in the ad ensuring our voices are heard in Washington, D.C. The work VoteVets does impacts all democracy-loving Americans and I am enormously proud to be on the VoteVets team.

I've never met one of these guys - going back to the YAF "pro-America" protestors who showed up when I or other anti-war Vietnam vets spoke anywhee - who wasn't a service avoider. My way of shutting them down was to ask them when they were going to quit school like their fathers had done, and enlist in the Army and volunteer to go to Vietnam like the patriots they were. They shut up, every time.
Dick Cheney: "I had other priorities." That's what they all say.
My father-in-law, wounded 2x in WWII, would be frothing over Trump and his disrespect for Gold Star families and veterans. My mother-in-law's family lost a son in WWII. My Dutch grandfather went BACK to Europe to fight the Germans in WWI. My maternal grandfather served in WWII, my step-grandfather served in WWII, my father and uncle served during Korea. My husband's family has a similar long history of service... none of them would ever salute the orange menace as the "Commander In Chief." We cannot let him get near the White House, ever again.
