Fired: Five Years Ago, I Was Forced Out of the National Security Council
I Fear It's a Prelude of What's Coming for Many Career Officials Under Trump 2.0.
Five years ago today, I was fired from the National Security Council. Months later, my military career came to an abrupt end—all because I chose to do my duty and testify against Donald Trump.
I put my oath above my personal interests, and while I faced intense backlash, I have no regrets. Despite the harassment, intimidation, and retaliation from Trump and his allies, I stand by my decision to expose his illegal attempt to extort President Zelensky as part of a scheme to steal the 2020 election.
Now, thousands of Americans in the civil service face a similar reckoning. The so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” has become a blunt instrument for purging dedicated public servants. USAID has been gutted, the FBI’s foreign malign influence task force dismantled, and the Treasury Department subverted. Elon Musk and his band of ideological interns have set their sights on the federal workforce, preparing to execute a political purge under the guise of efficiency.
To those facing the prospect of a “buyout” or an ultimatum to comply with an illegal and unconstitutional power grab: do not yield. Do not comply with the illegal demands of charlatans. This shock-and-awe campaign against your institutions, so critical to serving the public interest, must hold. The courts are already checking some of this lawlessness, so resist. Hold your ground. Fight.
My forthcoming book The Folly of Realism: How the West Deceived Itself About Russia and Betrayed Ukraine is partially based on my experiences crafting policy at the National Security Council. The book is available for preorder at this link, order soon to receive a special signed copy.

Before you sign on the dotted line consider this: do you REALLY believe that this administration will live up to their side of the bargain? The money for this has not been appropriated. It is highly unlikely that this Congress will fund 8 months of pay to thousands & thousands of employees who are no longer working for their respective departments. The whole idea behind the DOGE scam is to save money. Paying all these people not to work for 8 months is hardly saving money is it? And I'm hoping that the people considering this are not gullible & naive enough to think that they'll really be paid. You saw what Musk did to Twitter. He certainly isn't going to care one iota for a member of the "deep state". If you happen to be a trump voter that is affected by this pull yourself away from FOX & get some real news about this plan. I can guarantee you it WILL NOT work out the way it has been promised. Promises made, promises broken!
IT was shameful what donOLD did to you, Alexander, this time though, it's not targeting one individual, it's a whole department. Thank You for weighing in on this tonight, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍
