Cracks In Trump's Electoral Facade
Super Tuesday shows us the limits of the MAGA Agenda
On Tuesday March 19th millions of Americans across the country cast their votes in the Democratic and Republican primaries on Super Tuesday. Facing no formal challenge within their respective parties, Joe Biden and Donald Trump were declared the victors in their respective primaries.
At this point it is abundantly clear that the 2024 Presidential Election will be a rematch of the 2020 election. Barring any major developments in the ongoing legal investigations against Donald Trump, Americans will have a choice between the individual who tried to overturn the last election and instigated the January 6th insurrection and the sitting president who is leading the country through the ongoing post-pandemic economic reconstruction and working through continued obstruction by members of the Republican party.
While Trump’s uncontested candidacy is downstream of a deep dysfunction among Republican leadership, exit polls suggest that some Republican voters may be looking to break from the MAGA agenda that has hijacked the party. According to exit polling data released by the New York Times, approximately one in five Republican voters did not vote for Donald Trump in the March 19th primary. In Kansas and Arizona, this figure is closer to one in four.
While Trump has bullied his way to the candidacy, we should remember that he remains unpopular outside of his fanatic base. While it would be unrealistic to expect non-MAGA Republicans to run a viable independent candidate this late in the race, we should consider the role that moderate republicans may have in a wider common-sense coalition. The message of VoteVet’s latest campaign is simple: the party of Reagan should reject the empty rhetoric and demagoguery from Donald Trump and instead look to the principles that made this country great. Defending democracy abroad and working with allies is what kept America safe and prosperous in the Cold War and ultimately led to the demise of the USSR - now more than ever it’s imperative that we work with our partners in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and push back against the growing axis of authoritarianism.

What gets me is how the GOP is still trying to hold onto the mantle of Reagan while fully bending the knee to Trump.
The facts say Reagan has more in common with Biden than Trump.
Thank you for the upbeat thread Colonel!
