It started creeping within the GOP, at the end of President Dwight David Eisenhower's term of office, January 20, 1960. General Eisenhower was the LAST Republican to hold that office. Since then we've had 'I'm not a crook' Nixon who exploited his office to aggrandize himself, to numbskull, B grade actor, 'ronnie baby' Reagan who used his excellent voice and ham-acting skills to usher in the age of greed, to HW Bush, who, while he was more intelligent than the previous two, lacked the interest in honestly governing for all, to George W Bush, who unfortunately, while basically a good, compassionate man was really not intellectually equipped to run the Country following the terrorist attacks. Now we have trump slime with the emotional level of a very spoiled three year old, mixed with an intellectual level possibly as high as a sixth grader (although I wouldn't swear to that] That is a 57 year slide into the lowest level of neorestion this Country has ever assumed.
My other point of contention is the Declaration of Independence statement that "all men are born equal" as a woman, I can't attest to that, but as a trained scientist I can state unequivocally that all Homo sapiens are NOT born equal. One) their are definitely two distinct and unequal genders. Each gender has its own strengths - females have greater endurance and higher pain tolerances than males, males have greater muscular strength than females. Those are generalized statements and do not apply to all females or all males. Two) Aside from that, some of our species are taller or shorter than others, some more talented in some areas than others, some are more intellectually endowed than others, all of us have different cosmetic differences like color of eyes, hair, and skin, than others.
What that phrase should have said (in modern language - not 18th century language) is all Homo sapiens are endowed with the same right to equal treatment under the law and equal respect as a member of our Genus and species.
I think ‘born equal’ relates more to their right to enjoy equal privileges in a just society / world, not so much their physical or even intellectual capacities : Respect.
