It is a concern, to be sure, that the White House was apparently unaware of his hospitalization. I can understand not wanting to tell the press, but everyone the chain of command should have been notified.
However, I'm much more concerned about that missing notebook, the months-long hiding (selling?) of boxes and boxes of national secrets, and that a cruel, unhinged man may again inhabit the Oval Office.
Of course the racist, fascist networks (Fox primarily) will spin this to something apocalyptic. Republicans have turned out to be the saddest white grievance party of faux moral outrage.
I am grateful that the situation is “under control” so to speak. However without knowing anything more than what has been made public, this was completely inexcusable. I had a “different life” before the one I am living now. I was in the family of a man who ran a Fortune 5 company (at that time). Multi national company - not a country - no military - no nuclear weapons. There would NEVER be a time that someone of that key status would be in intensive care and the higher ups not know about it. If NOTHING else his doctors should have been required (even under HIPAA) to report Sec. Austin’s condition to the President for exactly the reasons you have presented. The hospital staff and overall procedures MUST be evaluated. The threat is internal as well as external. I can not believe, having dealt with the powerful men I knew, for decades, (again these men ran car companies - not the largest MILITARY in the entire world!) that this was allowed to “happen”. It can’t again.
Well obviously there was an error in communication- it appears that it has been addressed & likely fixed after the Hair In Fire attention it’s getting. I’m sure there’ll be an another announcement in the future addressing the FIX in Cabinet communications. I’m glad this fine man & great Sec. of Defence is recovering.
Now let’s Move On.
The government shut down calamity #1 is coming due, the mad House republicans are busy doing Nothing AGAIN (like they screeched about Benghazi), then government shutdown #2 approaching, and We could all lose all of our rights - all of them - if this election has us distracted by a past event That Have Had NO Serious Consequences.
This Was No Coup or violent insurrection- we need to focus.
No - I completely disagree with your statement “let’s move on”. It’s the same statement the Repuppet’s made about 1/6. However - the “hair on fire comment is also true.” The President as Commander in Chief of our country should have been notified immediately when the Secretary of Defense was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The President as Commander in Chief (while there are TWO wars going that the USA has been supplying weapons for) should have been made aware of the Elective surgery. The press and the public are a completely different matter. There is a right to medical privacy. I believe in this country’s past - when this country was not dealing with insurrectionist inside our own Congress and Senate - the military would have picked up the damn phone to the President. There are TWO wars going on that in one way or another, the United States is involved. I grew up in the Cold War - what would Putin do if he wasn’t told and it happened there. It’s not too much to demand that PROCEDURES are FIXED. That’s all. Assure the public that better procedures have been implemented so the Commander in Chief will be made aware and the right people are in place to deal with any incidents. Isn’t that what the American public wants to be assured. Don’t worry we’ve got this.
It’s puzzling, actually mind-blowing, the WH was not informed of the hospitalization of such an important cabinet level person being incapacitated with an ICU admission. No doubt there are policies in place that supposedly ensure the transition of authority to the next level down, but seriously--the policies mean nothing if nobody knows what’s happening.
What I read in the NYT comments this morning was a woman saying that the Defense Department has a lot of automatic layers, so while it is a problem, it is not the catastrophe that the press is implying it is. Do you have knowledge of the setup that is more insider than that?
Just like Jim Jordan screeching about Benghazi (and now Gym-bag is screeching about Hunter Biden) how are Jim Jordan and ALL The Others who Refused to honor the Congressional Subpoena they were served with, especially Jim Jordan; expecting anyone to honor a congressional subpoena???
If a Congress-Person ignores a Congressional Subpoena served on them, HOW In The Hell ARE They then allowed to even run or serve in OUR Congress?????????
Is that just another tier of our Justice System these Corrupt Republicans are carving out for Themselves? 🤨🤨
Of course the gop will turn this into a major scandal. I smell impeachment in the air. They have been very straightforward about anything they can do to make Biden approval go down they will.
That’s a Right we still have in America- to disagree. YES we have wars. When haven’t we had wars?
The ABC News reported on tv tonight that IT WAS the: chief of staff to Sec of Defense; the chairmen of Jt Chiefs; and the press secretary to defense secretary who ALL knew of his hospitalization and they Failed to notify the White House & Congress. The Deputy Sec WAS in charge. It’s not like there was a total void in command - just 3 adults not in the hospital who made a mistake by Not communicating. Big mistake- ok. But
Not Secretary Austin’s and not catastrophic in the real world.
I’m SURE that the department of defense IS ON IT now... that procedures are being tightened up.
So yes, let them run their ship. Let them Tighten Up The departments procedures.
Let’s move on.
Trump said in Iowa we should move on from January 6. Yes he did.
For my money, moving on from the misstep by the department of defense’s Not Communicating Better; vs Moving on from Trump’s January 6 Insurrection...NO CONTEST!!!

Another broken system in America...why am I not surprised. The Potemkin village we have displayed to our citizens and the world is in full collapse.

Thank you for helping me understand how the government really works. Your insites are valuable to me.
