More Revelations from Woodward’s Recent Book

Continuing his career of explosive investigative reporting, Bob Woodward’s upcoming book “WAR” features a behind the scenes look at the Trump and Biden administrations. Initial previews of the book provide a description of the Trump White House that is in-line with my own experiences: chaos, disorder, and mismanagement with a petty narcissist at the center of every decision.

Woodward's reporting, however, sheds light on Trump’s actions during a uniquely difficult time for the American people - the COVID-19 Pandemic. Trump’s mismanagement and ignorance during the opening months of the pandemic led to the deaths of thousands of Americans and allowed Covid to spread across the country with no meaningful response. While we were fortunate enough to have public figures like Anthony Fauci to provide guidance during this time, it can’t be underestimated how much misery and sickness was brought about by Trump’s failure during this time.

One of the most explosive details from Woodward’s coming book is the revelation that Trump personally sent a shipment of Covid tests to Vladimir Putin. 

What kind of president does this? The United States was facing an acute shortage of Covid tests, ventilators were in short supply, and overworked nurses were struggling to manage overflowing ERs across the country. Meanwhile, Trump goes out of his way to ensure that the leader of America’s main adversary has all the tests he needs.

Judging from the details provided by Woodward, Putin clearly understood how to play to Trump’s insecurities and how bad the situation would appear to the public. According to an excerpt released by NPR, Putin told Trump “I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me. They don't care about me”.

During a period of acute shortage of COVID-19 tests, Trump went out of his way to secure a “personal shipment” of tests to Vladimir Putin at the cost of the health of many Americans. Absolutely unpresidential.
