This is a message I shared with a Ukrainian correspondent today. I may post it on other substacks: "I have not written because I have assumed that you have been extraordinarily busy with your responsibilities. Neither you nor the people of Ukraine have been forgotten. We think of you all of the time even though our media has not kept you in the fore. Our regime unceasingly spews disinformation and misinformation (things we simply called ‘lies’ in the past) to distract from their immoral conduct. This deplorable Putin-like behavior is not as effective as it had been as more and more of my countrymen are coming to realize what the current American President’s election has wrought.  I was planning on writing to you for some special occasion such as Ukrainian Constitution Day (28 June), American Independence Day (04 July) or Ukrainian Independence Day (24 August). My hesitancy in writing was overcome by an article in the 29 June 2025 New York Times Magazine. (nytimes.com/2025/06/25/magazine/ukraine-russia-war-drone-shahed… or nytimes.com/2025/06/25/magazine/ukraine-russia-war-drone-shahed… ). The story all too graphically illustrates what the people of Ukraine live through daily. You are not causing your own harms; yours are created by the Russian Minister of Evil. Our home-grown Minister of Evil and his Minions continuously assault American’s soul, our Constitution. Our tragedy is self-induced which makes it seem even more tragic. Many have compared our regime’s strategies to those of Germany’s in the 1930s. It is ironic that Putin calls Ukraine a Nazi state while our regime seems to be attempting to mold America into one. We do not (as yet) have a king or a dictator I have hopes that the American people can prevent this. I fear that the two non-Executive branches of our tripartite government (Legislative and Judicial) may not be up to the task. Their actions have not yet proven at all inspirational in this struggle for freedom.  I cannot overstate how traitorous this seems  because the elected officials swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. They are derelict in their sworn duty. I hope that you can forgive this United States-centric missive.  You have been fighting for your lives and sovereignty since 2014. The struggle against our regime to maintain the sovereignty of our People and our Constitution is much more recent.  May we all survive in peace and honor. God Bless America!   [combined American and Ukrainian flag]       Slava Ukraini!"
