Today is Congress’ Last Chance to Deliver Timely Security Aid
Today the House is expected to hold four votes. One vote will be on a proposed ban of TikTok, while the other three will be separate defense aid packages for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. These votes come after weeks of Russian advances in Eastern Ukraine and days after a massive drone and missile attack on Israel by Iran.
We could have avoided this entire debacle months ago. The GOP has needlessly obstructed and delayed a combined security package that would have provided security assistance to America’s allies in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. During this process useful idiots and armchair generals like Elon Musk, David Sacks, and JD Vance went out of their way to convince the public that the path to peace involves American isolation and denying victory to our allies.
It wasn’t enough for Speaker Johnson to enable the Russian capture of Avdiivka: last-minute amendments to the Ukraine security package have shown us just how petulant members of the MAGA caucus can be. Marjorie Taylor Greene requested that security aid be withheld until "restrictions on ethnic minorities', including Hungarians in Transcarpathia, right to use their native languages in schools are lifted".
Marjorie Taylor Greene does not know what Transcarpathia is. I dare her to point to it on a map.
The madness doesn’t stop there. Another amendment proposed by MTG requests that Biden withdraws from NATO. In another, funding must be held until Zelenskyy resigns. Like much of the MAGA world, MTG views matters of international security through the same warped lens she view domestic politics. The end result is a member of the party of Reagan that cheers while Russia invades its neighbors. An amendment submitted by Representative Kareem Rifai of Florida suggested that Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office be renamed the “Neville Chamberlain Room”.
Today we have the opportunity to send a clear message to our partners across the world: America’s support for its allies transcends party politics.
Associating MTG with Neville Chamberlain is apples to oranges. Chamberlain was inept, while MTG is treasonous.
MTG is a Russian mole, along with many other GOP Congress members. They need to be called out for their treachery.
